Pre & After Care
Before your eyelash appointment (lash lift, extension, tint)
- Your eye lashes are clean, oil free & makeup free (no mascara, no makeup, no eyeliner) : makeup products worn close to the eye will need to be removed prior to the lash application process. coming to your appointment with a clean face will save time and eliminate the need for you lash stylist to remove your eye makeup
- Wear comfortable clothing : you will lie down for 60 to 90 minutes with dimmed lights and soft music as your backdrop during your eyelash application, comfortable clothes will allow you to make the most of this time to relax and be pampered.
- Remove your contacts : your eyes will be closed during the application of your eyelash extensions, to avoid any discomfort, it is always suggested that contacts are removed allowing eyes to be comfortable in a natural and rested state
- Turn off your cellphone just prior to your appointment : this is truly a time to sit back and relax. Ringing cellphones will only interrupt your treatment. enjoy the “me” time, and let your lash transformation begin
- Apply face creams or sunblock to the eye area : the oils within many moisturizers and sunblock can prevent the eyelash glue from properly adhering to your natural lashes, dramatically reducing the longevity of your eyelash extensions
- DO NOT Curl your lashes on the day of your lash application
After your lash appointment
- For the next 48hours : NO water, no tears, no sauna, no heat, no mascara, no hot yoga, carefull with BBQ, no swimming
- Comb your lashes everyday (we always provide you with mascara wands)
- Always carefull when you rubbing your eyes
- Sleep on your back, do not sleep on your face, neither on your side, be conscious of your lashes, if sleeping is an issue for you we do have special sleeping mask for lash extension, you will love it!
- When wearing eyeshadow, eye makeup, we always suggest wearing an eye primer so the makeup wont smudge into the lashes and it will stay on the eyelid, and tap instead of brushing the powder on your eyelid
- Use a special eye makeup remover for lash extension (we can provide you with)
- Use a special mascara for lash extension (we can provide you with)
Before your waxing appointment
- Please shower before your appointment. In a pinch, wet wipes are a lifesaver!
- Hair must be a quarter of an inch (about 10-14 days of growth) to adhere correctly to the wax
- Do not tan 24 hours before your waxing (especially spray tan, which can be done day after)
- Resist the urge to shave between sessions. Shaving chafes the skin and creates sharper, coarser hair!
- Gently exfoliate the night before or take a warm bath to prep the skin before your wax. Having a warm bath or shower before your wax can soften your skin allowing for easier hair removal. We also recommend exfoliation the night before as this removes dead skin build up around and in the follicle again aiding in easier and more thorough removal. We suggest gently dry brushing using our Merben Brushes (body brush, back brush and bikini brush)
- Chill. Come to your appointment as relaxed as you can. Like a lot of things in life, the anticipation is often worse than the actual event. Don’t listen to friends who tell you their waxing horror stories. They don’t come to us! Youtube videos and movie scenes with screaming ninnies will only get your knickers in a deeper twist. This is your experience and we want it to be a good one!
- Take a deep breath. We often ask clients to take a few deep breaths and to try to relax their muscles once they get on the waxing table. Don’t worry—it really doesn’t hurt that much. And trust me, we want you to come back, so we won’t do anything to traumatize you! Plus we have TV in the room so you get to laugh or enjoy your favorite show.
- Know that it gets better. We get that first timers don’t know what to expect. My advice is to acknowledge that the first one will be the most uncomfortable, especially if you’ve been shaving prior to it. However, it doesn’t have to be the worst thing you’ve ever done. Most of the time, people leave our room pleasantly relieved that the wax wasn’t nearly as bad as they expected. Every wax after the first one gets easier, especially when your hair starts growing in finer and we weaken that horrid follicle!
- If you’re concerned about the potential for pain, take a couple of advil 20 minutes before your appointment. Some clients feel this takes the edge off.
- Remember, it will be over before you know it. Being fuzz-free is so worth a couple minutes of discomfort!
After your waxing appointment
- Stay out of the sun : The first 48 hours after waxing, your already delicate skin down there is even more vulnerable. So while you may be dying to throw on your bikini the second you leave the spa, keep in mind that sensitive skin is more susceptible to UV rays. it can cause permanent sun damage and/or hyperpigmentation.
- Avoid swimming : This kind of goes hand in hand with the above, but it goes for indoor pools too—and especially large bodies of water (like an ocean, lake or river) that could contain bacteria. Avoid public water like swimming pools for a few days If you don't, there is a risk of getting an infection as your pores are open hence any bacteria can travel under the dermis much faster.
- Avoid the sauna & hot yoga : Steam opens your pores, which helps to push hair out. Because it could cause premature stubble, it might make you think the wax service wasn't done correctly. Plus, bacteria thrive in warm, wet places & you want to keep your fresh wax as clean as possible. For these reasons it's worth taking a break from hot yoga as well.
- Opt for loose clothing : One thing to keep in mind both before you head into your appointment and after: Anything tight-fitting can rub raw spots and irritate. You'll want to give your leggings a break for a few days & stick with maxidresses, flowy pants & breathable cotton fabrics.
- Avoid intense workouts: Another reason to give leggings (and your body) a rest: Activities such as running, aerobics or cycling can cause friction in treated areas & sweating can also be irritating. In other words, use this as an excuse to hit the couch for a couple of days. You deserve a break.
