A Brazilian wax is when an aesthetician uses wax to get rid of the hair that along the bikini area. A Brazilian includes the strands along the vagina lips and in your behind. You have an option of leaving a triangle or landing strip of hair on top or you can also leave it bare.
Why choose a Brazilian wax over shaving?
Waxing pulls out the hair from its roots, while shaving is just cutting the pubic hair. After waxing, hair grows back it is thinner and tapered so it is less likely to get trapped under the skin. For bikini areas, waxing is more precise and can result in less razor bumps. With waxing, there’s the added benefit of light exfoliation. Since the substance adheres to the top layer of skin, it can remove dead skin cells to reveal a softer underlying layer.
What methods are available for Brazilian waxing?
- Soft wax : The wax is applied with a disposable spatula (if you ever see the spatula being put back into the wax pot, then RUN AWAY!) Once wax is applied on the skin, the wax is then removed with a strip. Now the way it’s being done can be different from one person to another. The strip should be removed FAST and in the opposite side that the hair grows. The entire process can take anywhere between 5/15 min on average depending on the amount of hair.
- Hard wax : Wax is applied with a spatula on the skin. The wax hardens, then it is flicked away and removed by hand FAST by the beautician. The entire process can take anywhere between 20/45min on average depending on the amount of hair there is.
- Sugar wax : This wax is made from using a sugar paste mixed with lemon juice and sugar. The paste is rolled and applied with the pressure of the finger of the beautician. It tends to hurt less than waxing because it pulls fewer hairs out at one time. The paste needs to be reapplied to same area several times. The entire process can take anywhere between 30/45min on average depending on the amount of hair there is.
How long should the hair be for a Brazilian wax?
Your hair has to be at least 1/4-inch long, or around the size of a grain of rice, before you get a bikini wax. This helps ensure that hair is completely removed from its root. To measure your hair length, try grasping the hairs and pulling them up. If you’re unable to grasp the hairs without also pinching your skin, they might not be long enough yet.
How often should you get a Brazilian wax?
Everybody’s hair growth is very different. It depends on the ethnicity, age, sex and prior hair removal that were done on the area. But it could be anywhere between 2.5weeks for the less lucky up to 6weeks for the most lucky one 😉
Make sure to always schedule your next appointment before you leave, in that case that will prevent you from going bananas when it starts growing and you cant get an appointment at your favourite spa near you.
Is there anyone who shouldn’t get a Brazilian wax?
Your skin might be more sensitive to waxing if you’re taking the following medications:
- Antibiotics
- Hormone replacement therapy
- Hormonal birth control
- Accutane
- Retin-A or other retinol-based cream
With waxing, there’s always a chance of side effects, including:
- Pain
- Redness
- Irritation
- Rash
- Bumps
- Sun sensitivity
- Allergic reaction
- Infection
- Ingrown hairs
- Scarring
- Burns
That’s why always very important to research the place you going to. Make sure the person is experienced, the place is clean. Wipes should be at your disposal before and after your treatment. The beautician should be wearing gloves, and let you know about the process if this is your first time.
What should I know prior to getting my first Brazilian wax?
If you are worry about the pain, you could take something that will relaxes you 30min to 1hr prior to your appointment (some take advil, tylenol or CBD oil can also be an option if you have a prescription). Regardless it’s your first time or not you should always exfoliate prior to getting a Brazilian wax, so any hair trapped under the skin will be removed during your treatment. Do NOT tan 24hours prior (if you want to do a spray tan do it after a wax).
Tip: the more often you wax the less and less pain you will experience with each visit.
If you’re prone to ingrown hairs, reach for pads or scrubs with salicylic acid two days after waxing or shaving (use them too soon and you may feel your still-sensitive skin start to burn). These gently exfoliate, allowing hair to grow back free and clear of dead skin cells and dirt so it doesn’t loop back on itself and create painful bumps.
We recommend some products that can help you.
PFB Vanish Plus Chromabright is an ingrown hair treatment that is formulated to remove and prevent ingrown hairs as well as reducing skin discoloration resulting from ingrown hairs, razor burn and bumps.
Directions: Use on face, neck, underarms, legs, back and bikini areas. For maximum benefits apply daily after hair removal. If there are pre-existing ingrown hairs apply two times per day. Hair should lift out above the skin line.
Dry body brushing helps to prevent pesky ingrown hairs. Alongside smooth skin, regular body brushing encourages cell turnover so that your limbs will look and feel supple, and whether you wax or shave, a quick brush is fantastic at keeping pesky, ingrown hairs and clogged pores at bay. While dry body brushing won’t completely rid your legs of cellulite, it helps to mobilize and contribute to the even distribution of fat deposits under the skin – and if you stick at it, it’s proven to give your limbs a much smoother, and firmer, look and feel.
Even gentle brushing brings nutrient rich freshly oxygenated blood to the skin’s surface, which gives it a better tone and elasticity. As blood flow and circulation is stimulated by the zealous brushing action, it lends the body, skin and mind a much needed boost.
Directions: Body brushing is best done before hopping into the bath or shower, the process only takes a couple of minutes. Start at the feet in the direction of your heart, in a circular motion.
