Dermaplaning Benefits: Why It's One of the Best Treatments for Smooth, Glowing Skin

Dermaplaning Benefits: Why We Often Recommend It Before Other Skin Treatments

One of the questions we get asked all the time at La Beauty Boutique is: “Is dermaplaning really worth it?”

The short answer? Yes.

While many people think dermaplaning is simply a way to remove peach fuzz, there’s actually much more to it than that. In our clinic, we often use dermaplaning as a way to prepare the skin before treatments such as microneedling, HydraFacial, chemical peels, and sometimes Aerolase.

The goal isn’t just smoother skin. It’s creating a cleaner, more even surface so other treatments can perform at their best.

What Exactly Is Dermaplaning?

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation treatment that removes dead skin cells and fine facial hair from the surface of the skin using a sterile surgical blade.

Before you panic, no, your hair does not grow back thicker.

That’s probably the biggest myth we hear.

The hair that is removed during dermaplaning is called vellus hair, often referred to as peach fuzz. The treatment doesn’t change the hair follicle, which means the hair grows back exactly the same way it was before.

What most clients notice immediately after treatment is how smooth their skin feels.

In fact, many clients can’t stop touching their face afterwards.

Why We Love Dermaplaning

As skincare professionals, we spend a lot of time looking at skin up close.

One thing we see often is a buildup of dead skin cells that leaves the skin looking dull, rough, and uneven.

Many people are using good skincare products but still feel like their skin isn’t glowing the way it should.

Sometimes the problem isn’t the products.

Sometimes the problem is the layer of dead skin sitting on top.

Dermaplaning helps remove that buildup and instantly reveals fresher-looking skin underneath.

Clients often notice:

  • Brighter skin
  • Softer skin texture
  • Smoother makeup application
  • Better product absorption
  • A healthier glow
  • Less dry, flaky skin

It’s one of those treatments where the results are visible right away.

Why We Often Recommend Dermaplaning Before Microneedling

Microneedling is one of our favourite treatments for improving acne scars, enlarged pores, fine lines, and overall skin texture.

Before performing microneedling, we want the skin surface to be as clean and smooth as possible.

Think of it like painting a wall.

If the wall is covered in dust and debris, you’re not going to get the best finish.

The same concept applies to the skin.

When dead skin cells are removed beforehand, the treatment can be performed on a smoother surface, and the skin generally looks more radiant afterwards.

Many of our clients choose to combine dermaplaning and microneedling because they love the glow they get from the combination.

It’s especially popular among clients concerned with:

What About Aerolase?

We get this question often.

Is dermaplaning required before Aerolase?

No.

Aerolase works beautifully on its own.

However, some clients choose to add dermaplaning because they love how smooth and polished their skin looks after treatment.

Aerolase is one of our go-to treatments for acne, rosacea, pigmentation, redness, and skin rejuvenation. When paired with freshly exfoliated skin, clients often feel like they’re getting an extra boost in overall radiance.

This combination is especially popular before weddings, vacations, photoshoots, and special events.

My Favourite Combination

If someone came into the clinic and asked me which combination gives the biggest immediate glow, I would probably say:

Dermaplaning + HydraFacial.

The skin feels incredibly smooth afterwards, makeup goes on beautifully, and clients leave looking refreshed and radiant.

For long-term skin correction, however, I still love combining dermaplaning with treatments such as microneedling, Aerolase, and professional chemical peels.

Who Is Dermaplaning Good For?

In our experience, dermaplaning is a great option for most people who want smoother, brighter skin.

It can be especially beneficial if you struggle with:

  • Dull skin
  • Dry skin
  • Rough texture
  • Peach fuzz
  • Makeup that sits unevenly
  • Mild congestion
  • Early signs of aging

When We Don’t Recommend Dermaplaning

Although dermaplaning is suitable for many skin types, there are situations where we may recommend waiting.

For example:

  • Active cystic acne
  • Open lesions
  • Skin infections
  • Recently sunburned skin
  • Certain inflammatory skin conditions

This is why a professional consultation is always important.

Is Dermaplaning Worth It?

In our opinion, absolutely.

It’s quick, comfortable, requires no downtime, and instantly improves the way the skin looks and feels.

While it may not replace treatments designed to target acne, pigmentation, or wrinkles, it can be an excellent addition to a customized skincare plan.

At La Beauty Boutique, we often think of dermaplaning as the treatment that helps everything else work a little better.

If you’ve never tried it before, it might just become your new favourite treatment.
