Non-Surgical Skin Tightening

Fanny Garnier, master aesthetician and founder of La Beauty Boutique

By Fanny Garnier, founder and master aesthetician · Updated October 2026

A radio frequency facial in North York, Toronto is non-surgical skin tightening: gentle heat firms skin that has started to loosen at the jawline and cheeks and softens fine lines, with no needles. Our Forma treatment at La Beauty Boutique uses InMode’s bipolar handpiece, which continuously reads skin temperature so the heat stays within a set range.

Forma RF Facial at a glance

  • Session length: 90 minutes
  • Price: $300 per session
  • Best for: early skin laxity, a softening jawline, fine lines and loss of firmness
  • Downtime: possible flushing or mild redness that usually settles within 30 minutes to an hour, and within 2 hours at most; makeup is fine the same day
  • Results: a tighter, brighter look on the day, which is temporary; a noticeable improvement in firmness and skin texture over two to six months
  • Sessions: a series, planned at your first visit
  • Not today if: you have a pacemaker or other implanted device or metal in the treatment area, or you are pregnant or breastfeeding

Forma Skin Tightening Facial

Non-invasive bipolar radio frequency warms the dermis, the layer beneath the skin’s surface where collagen sits, while sensors in the handpiece track skin temperature. The face often looks tighter and brighter as you leave, but that first effect fades. The lasting change comes from new collagen built up over a series of sessions.

Who Is a Good Fit for Non-Surgical Skin Tightening with Forma?

A Forma RF facial suits clients with early signs of skin laxity who want firmer skin without surgery and with little downtime. Fanny Garnier uses RF as part of corrective plans for aging skin and will tell you if another treatment would do more.

Good fit:

  • Early laxity: softening at the jawline, cheeks or lower face rather than folds of loose skin

  • Fine lines and wrinkles starting to set: especially where skin aging and sun damage have dulled skin quality

  • Most skin types: after screening

  • Realistic expectations: firmness builds gradually over a few sessions, not one

  • A preference for no needles: Forma heats through intact skin

Hold off, or choose another treatment, if:

  • You have a pacemaker, defibrillator or other implanted electronic device: a 2020 review of radiofrequency in aesthetic surgery lists implantable devices as a contraindication.

  • Metal plates, screws or implants sit in the treatment area: a 2022 clinical trial of bipolar RF for the face and neck excluded them.

  • You are pregnant or breastfeeding: RF studies routinely exclude both.

  • You have an active skin infection, autoimmune or collagen vascular disease, or recent filler, laser or microneedling in the area: we may ask you to wait.

  • Sagging skin already folds over the jawline or neck: a non-surgical treatment will not match the result of a surgical facelift.

How Does Forma RF Technology Tighten Skin?

Forma RF technology tightens skin by sending RF energy into the dermis and deeper layers, which contracts existing collagen fibers on the day and prompts new collagen production over the following months. A 2020 review in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Global Open describes both stages.

  • Bipolar RF energy: current runs between two electrodes on the same handpiece, so the heat stays in the tissue between them and the skin’s surface stays intact.

  • Temperature control: according to InMode’s Forma and Forma Plus specifications, built-in thermistors read skin temperature 1,000 times per second and adjust the output.

  • Collagen and elastin: both respond to controlled heat, which is how RF improves skin elasticity and structural support over a series.

  • Two handpieces: Forma is for smaller areas and Forma Plus for larger ones; our menu lists Forma as a facial.

  • Licensing: Forma appears in Health Canada’s Medical Devices Active Licence Listing under InMode’s Class 3 licence #100376. The listing confirms the device is licensed for sale in Canada, not its approved uses.

What Happens During a Forma Session?

A Forma session takes 90 minutes and follows three steps.

  1. Screening: we review your skin and goals and ask the implant, pregnancy and recent-treatment questions listed above.

  2. Treatment: the handpiece moves over the face while the thermistors keep reading temperature. Expect steady warmth rather than sharp heat.

  3. Finish: infrared and red light therapy finish the session. We then review how your skin looks and plan the next session.

Forma Recovery and Aftercare

Recovery after a Forma RF facial is short: any flushing usually settles within 30 minutes to an hour, and within 2 hours at most.

Timing

What you may notice

Your part

Same day

Warmth from RF combined with infrared and red light therapy; a tighter, brighter look

Back to work; makeup is fine

First 1–2 hours

Skin looks plumped, hydrated and lifted as any redness fades

Keep skin care after your treatment gentle

Between sessions

Collagen keeps remodeling

Daily SPF and gentle skin care protect skin health

In rare cases, excess heat can cause burns, which is why the temperature readings and screening matter.

How Many Forma Sessions Will You Need?

A Forma result usually needs a series rather than one session, and we set the number at your first visit. Cleveland Clinic says some people need two to six treatments, with changes in skin tone and appearance within two to six months.

  • Spacing: members book every four to six weeks.

  • How long results last: Cleveland Clinic reports that results may last one to three years with proper skin care.

  • One session: gives a temporary glow; stimulating collagen production for lasting results takes a series.

  • Maintenance: the aging process continues, so occasional top-up treatments help preserve the result.

Forma RF Facial vs Microneedling and Aerolase

Choose Forma when firmness is the main goal and you want no needles. Microneedling is the better choice for acne scarring, and Aerolase for uneven tone or redness.

Forma RF Facial FAQs

A Forma facial is $300 per 90-minute session, or $299 per visit through the Elite Glow membership with red light therapy added.

Yes, within limits. Radiofrequency tightens skin modestly through collagen remodeling, but it does not replace a surgical facelift for significant sagging.

Yes. Forma can be booked as close as 24 hours before an event, since any flushing settles within an hour or two. If you want the collagen change and not just the same-day glow, plan a series months ahead.

No. RF microneedling sends radio frequency through needles that enter the skin, while Forma heats through intact skin. We do not offer RF microneedling.

A Forma facial is worth it when firmness is the goal and laxity is early, because a series can give tighter skin without surgery. If acne scarring or pigmentation is the main concern, microneedling or Aerolase is usually better value.

Our booking menu lists Forma as a facial only. Ask us before booking if you are thinking about an area below the face.
