Express Microdermabrasion
The express session suits clients with a full calendar who still want a smoother, more radiant complexion. We deep-cleanse the face, exfoliate the surface with the microdermabrasion device to remove dead skin cells, and finish with nourishing creams chosen for your skin type. Longer facial steps are left out, so you can go straight back to work, usually with nothing more than a light pinkness.
Facial with Microdermabrasion
Our longer option, a microdermabrasion facial, adds a full facial customized to your skin type and concerns. The gentle, non-invasive exfoliation comes first so the products applied afterwards absorb better, and the extra time makes for a slower, more relaxing visit.
Who Should Book Microdermabrasion?
Microdermabrasion is suitable for clients whose skin concerns sit on the surface: dullness, roughness and flat discoloration. The American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) describes it as safe for all skin colors.
Good fit:
A dull complexion or rough, uneven skin texture
Age spots and other flat marks from sun damage
Dark spots left by acne, and melasma
Busy schedules that leave no room for recovery time
Wait, or choose another treatment, if:
You took isotretinoin recently: the AAD links use in the past 6 months to a higher risk of scarring, while Mayo Clinic advises waiting a full year before dermabrasion, a deeper procedure it says is sometimes called microdermabrasion. Sources differ, so we screen every client and decide together.
Your skin has inflamed acne, a cold sore or keloids, or it scars easily.
Rosacea is flaring, since the AAD tells people with rosacea to stop exfoliating.
Acne scars, including mild acne scars, or early signs of aging such as lost firmness are the goal: the AAD states that microdermabrasion won’t treat acne scars, so we suggest microneedling, which stimulates collagen production, instead.
A mole has changed, bled or grown, which a physician should see first.
How Does Microdermabrasion Smooth Skin Texture?
Microdermabrasion is light resurfacing of the skin’s top layer: a stream of fine crystals or a diamond-tipped wand loosens dead skin cells while gentle suction lifts them away. Because it works at a shallow depth, it improves skin texture and tone, not deep wrinkles or scars.
What Happens During a Microdermabrasion Facial or Express Session?
A microdermabrasion treatment at our clinic follows four steps:
Screening: we ask about medications, recent peels, sun exposure, cold sores and skin conditions.
Cleanse: makeup and oil come off so the device works on bare skin.
Exfoliation: the device passes over the face in even strokes.
Finish: nourishing creams for skin hydration, plus sun protection advice for the days ahead.
Recovery and Skin Care After Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion has no downtime, according to the AAD, so you can return to work or errands the same day.
Timing | What to expect | Your part |
|---|---|---|
First few hours | Pink skin, no swelling | Carry on with your day |
Next day | Pinkness has usually faded | Moisturize as normal |
Ongoing | Smoother, brighter, healthier-looking surface | Daily SPF to protect the result |
The AAD notes that sun protection helps preserve the results.
How Many Microdermabrasion Treatments Will You Need?
Microdermabrasion treatment is usually done as a series rather than a single visit. The AAD’s microdermabrasion FAQs say most patients receive between 5 and 16 treatments, spaced weekly, every two weeks or monthly. Results tend to be temporary, so follow-up visits help maintain smoother skin.

Microdermabrasion vs Dermaplaning and HydraFacial
When comparing microdermabrasion, Toronto clients usually weigh what each treatment removes. The benefits differ: microdermabrasion targets rough texture, dermaplaning targets peach fuzz, and HydraFacial targets congestion.
Treatment | How it exfoliates | Time and price | Choose it when |
|---|---|---|---|
Microdermabrasion | Crystals or a diamond tip plus suction on the top layer | 35 or 90 min | Texture and dullness are the concern |
A small blade removes vellus hair and dead skin cells | 60 min, $85 | Fine facial hair catches makeup | |
HydraFacial Deluxe | Vortex suction cleanses, exfoliates, extracts and infuses serums | 90 min, $300 | Blackheads and congestion need extraction |
Health Canada licenses HydraFacial devices under its “Microdermabrasion Systems” category, but the serum and extraction steps make it a different treatment.

Microdermabrasion FAQs
In Toronto, plan for the full course rather than one visit. At the La Beauty Boutique express price of $105 per session, the AAD's typical course of 5 to 16 treatments comes to $525 to $1,680.
Microdermabrasion clears the dead skin cells that contribute to clogged pores, so blackheads and whiteheads can look better, but it does not extract them. For congestion, a HydraFacial or one of our acne treatments is the better choice.
Within the AAD's weekly-to-monthly range, monthly maintenance after the first series works out to about 12 visits a year. The actual schedule depends on your skin and goals, and we plan it at your first consultation.
The results are temporary, you need a series of treatments, and it won't treat acne scars or deep wrinkles. Treatment also has to be postponed after isotretinoin use and during a rosacea flare.
